Bomber Jackets – are they still on trend?

For a few years now I have been seeing bomber jackets back in the shops and I have loved them.

They reminded me of a beautiful Marcel Dachet bomber jacket I bought in my teens, in the 80’s (wow showing my age!), and I loved that jacket!

I really wanted a bomber jacket, however, 10 years ago I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid (Hashimoto’s disease). This lead me to gain 16 kilos, which was awful to say the least, alongside other health issues that an underactive thyroid brings into your life.

For ten years I shied away from buying many clothes, I just really bought what I needed and thought when I lose this weight I can buy nicer clothes.

Well, the weight is still here and anyone who has an underactive thyroid knows how hard it is to lose weight – having an underactive thyroid really affects your metabolism.

One day my daughter was in Jay Jay’s (a fast fashion clothing chain in Australia) trying on some clothes, and I was waiting outside the changing rooms, when I saw a shiny, pink bomber jacket staring at me! I just had to touch it, and get a closer look. While I was looking at it, one half of my brain was saying “you know what, I think this might fit me”, while the other half of my brain saying “don’t be silly it will never fit me!”.

I tried on that jacket and to my amazement, it did fit! I couldn’t believe it. My daughter came out of the changing room and said “that looks really good on you!”. I was delighted – but me being me so indecisive, I did not buy the jacket that day. I had instant regret! I kept thinking about that gorgeous jacket, both my daughter and husband saying buy it.

When we went back to the shops, I couldn’t see it at first and I was disappointed – then there it was, in my size! I held on to it and it was mine – I was so happy!

Last July, we went to Melbourne for a week. Anyone who has been to Melbourne in July knows how cold it is there – like, freezing cold! Can you believe I forgot to pack my new bomber jacket – I really needed that jacket!

Luckily for me, Melbourne has so many Direct Factory Outlets, with amazing prices. I highly recommend going to them. I found another bomber jacket from Forever New, originally $129 down to $29, how amazing was that! I love a bargain! This jacket is slightly bigger, although it is a smaller size (we all know how sizes vary so much), in a champagne/rose gold colour, equally as beautiful as my shiny pink one.

The thing I love most about bomber jackets is they are surprising so warm.

I haven’t seen as many bomber jackets in the shops this winter, which is disappointing, but there are still many online.

If you are happy with an item of clothing does it really matter if they are on trend? I think it doesn’t matter! Just be happy!
