Face Masks – Why You Need Them

Today on Rediscovering My Style I am talking about my rediscovery of face masks.

I used to use face masks all the time in my late teens and early twenties, but like a lot of things in life, they certainly got forgotten about over the years. It wasn’t until my daughter (softoctobernight) started using masks that I took notice of them again (she had mainly been using them for acne). When she started to use charcoal/mud masks, it really reminded me of the face masks I used to use. I saw how clear my daughter’s skin was looking and I thought, time to use face masks again! I am so glad I did, as I can really see the benefits they have on my skin.

Here is some I have been trying lately, all of these face masks are reasonably priced.

L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks

L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks are definitely one of my favourites – I use the Detoxifying mask. They come in a variety of ingredients, each to suit different skincare concerns.

I do notice a slight smell from this mask, but it leaves my skin feeling so clean – it is worth it! I have already repurchased this mask.

Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Clay Mask

Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Clay Mask contains a mix of super green, Baobab, and Rosehip Oils. This mask is definitely one I use every week, without fail.

I have never tried any Sukin products before, so I was apprehensive about this mask, but the reviews were really good so I gave it a try. I am so glad I did! I am definitely keen to try other products from Sukin (they have very affordable prices too).

This mask detoxs and brightens your skin, with the added bonus of minimizing fine lines too!  After I use this mask my skin feels so good, like it has had a deep cleansing. I will definitely repurchase!

Swiss Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask

Swiss Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask contains many natural derived ingredients like Manuka Honey, Aloe Vera, and Red Algae, to name a few. I actually bought this mask for my daughter, as it is recommended for congested, blemish-prone skin. I have used it a few times as it is still a clay mask, but I felt like it left my face quite red afterward for some time, so I don’t use it that often now.

My daughter has used it a few times but she will mainly reach for the L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask instead. I will probably not repurchase.

Mario Badescu Rose Hip Mask

Mario Badescu Rose Hip Mask is rich in Vitamin C, which is so good for the skin. This mask defintley leaves my skin feeling clean (not as deep a clean as the Sukin or L’Oreal mask) but my skin feels so soft afterwards. I didn’t like the smell though, so I would probably won’t use it much.

To round up, face masks are a perfect skincare treatment, as they remove impurities and excess oils from your skin and leave the skin so clean.

Some brands have single-use sachet face masks, which is perfect to try them without having to buy the full size product first. L’Oreal Pure Clay masks have a trial size package containing three pots of their clay masks, which is what I tried first and then purchased the Detoxifying mask.

I always remove the mask with a wash cloth, as it is less damaging to the skin (mud masks dry hard!). I also slightly wet my skin (before using the wash cloth) to soften the mask first. My daughter sprays her face with Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, and she says it helps to remove the mask more easily.

Another interesting tip my daughter has is to apply the face mask with a flat foundation brush (she was not liking applying it with her fingers), I think I will give this a go too!

Comment below any face masks you are loving so I can try them too!
