Urban Decay Primer Potion Review

I was so happy that I had found two beautiful eyeshadow palettes, Urban Decay Naked3 (read my post here) and Urban Decay Backtalk (read my post here) however, I was getting so frustrated. The problem was I would apply it in the morning, but by the end of the day, it was gone – practically disappeared! Where had it gone? I was complaining to my daughter, Chloe (softoctobernight), when she said: “try the eyeshadow primer samples that came with your Naked3 palette.” The next time I wore eyeshadow I tried the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original. My eyeshadow, by the end of the day, it was still there, looking just like it did in the morning when I applied it. I was delighted and amazed at this product!

I will always use this primer before applying my eyeshadow. It really is a miracle worker!

What is it?

Urban Decay Primer Potion is a product that basically prepares your eyelids for the application of eyeshadow, creating a beautiful flawless canvas. This miracle worker prevents fading and creasing.

Your eyeshadow is more vibrant, and the best part for me is that it lasts all day. In fact, Urban Decay claims it can last for 24 hours – and I don’t doubt that claim!

Texture and Tones

This primer has a creamy, lightweight formula. It comes in a variety of skin tone colours, I use the Primer Potion in Original – a nude tone but it also comes in:

  • Eden – a nude matte (perfect for oily eyelids)
  • Freebase – an opaque white matte
  • Minor Sin – a nude shimmer
  • Sin – a champagne shimmer
  • Caffeine – a warm rich brown matte
  • Anti Ageing – for the visible signs of aging.

The applicator is a wand, however, I do find this a little harsh on my eyelids – so you can either dab the loaded wand on your eyelids, or on the back of your hand (alternatively, you can squeeze the tube on the back of your hand), and softy blend it onto your eyelids with your finger.

A little of this primer goes a long way.

The Packaging

I absolutely love Urban Decay’s packaging! The Original Primer Potion comes in a striking purple tube, and I love the crystal effect top, such a nice touch.

The box that the Original Primer Potion comes in is gorgeous as well – starting out black, then going into a deep purple/dark blue, with silver writing. I am a sucker for beautiful packaging!

Urban Decay Primer Potion comes in two sizes; 10g for $35 (AU) and a handy travel or trial size 5.7g for $20 (AU). I think this would be the perfect size to try without having to spend too much money.
