Facial Sprays – Do We Really Need Them?

Today I am talking about facial sprays – also known as facial mists – and asking the questions:

  • Do we really need them?
  • Are they just a marketing skincare gimmick?

It took me a long time to try these sprays as I thought they were just not a necessary part of skincare. However, I finally did try them and I haven’t stopped using them since. So, as you can guess, I personally love facial sprays. The two sprays I am currently using are Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, and Linden Leaves Rose & Ylang Ylang Face and Body Mist, both of which I love. So, facial sprays – do we really need them? Let’s find out!

Why Use a Facial Spray?

First of all, facial sprays or mists, are a liquid that is contained in a spray bottle that you mist onto your face. Most facial sprays are for hydrating and soothing the skin. They can be used at any time of the day.

Here are a few reasons why you may want to incorporate a facial spray into your skincare routine.

  • Facial sprays can replace a toner.
  • Gentle on skin concerns like Eczema and Rosacea.
  • Can be used as a setting spray.
  • Great in hot weather for a burst of hydration and a refresh for the face.
  • Extra hydration in an easy mist application.
  • To dampen the skin in between applying your skincare products.
  • To lock in moisture.

The Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater was the first facial spray I tried, I have repurchased it quite a few times now. I honestly can’t see myself without this facial spray in my skincare routine now, which I never thought I would say! The Rose fragrance really won me over, it’s not an overpowering rose scent, and is very gentle. I love the hydration I get from this spray, I tend to use it when I come out of the shower, or after my toner, and also in between serum layering. The herb Thyme clarifies the skin, while rose rejuvenates leaving a healthy, dewy glow. This spray leaves my skin feeling super hydrated.

Mario Badescu also has facial sprays in other fragrances to suit different skincare concerns:

The Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater spray comes in two sizes:

118ml for $10 AUD

236ml for $18 AUD

Mario Badescu products are cruelty-free.

Linden Leaves Rose & Ylang Ylang Face and Body Mist

The Linden Leaves Rose & Ylang Ylang Face and Body Mist is the second facial spray I have tried, and I am loving this one too. Alongside Rose and Ylang Ylang, some other ingredients this spray also contains are:

  • Marshmallow which soothes and hydrates,
  • White Tea to brighten and protect,
  • Aloe Vera to calm and hydrate the skin.

The scent is not overpowering, it is very soft and delicate. Again, I use this the same way as the Mario Badescu facial spray.

Linden Leaves also has facial mists in other fragrances too:

All sprays retail for $34.99 AUD for 150ml

Linden Leaves is a New Zealand brand, their products are cruelty-free.

Rounding Up

I do think facial sprays are not really needed, but for me, I just love that little bit of extra luxury during my skincare routine, the smell of roses and that burst of hydration are lovely. Some may say they are just fragranced water, and perhaps they are right. I certainly wouldn’t spend a lot of money on a facial spray. I think they would be a lovely gift idea for a skincare lover so they could try them first. They last for ages too. If you are a facial spray lover keep on using them, and if you think they are not required, don’t use them. We all have individual needs for our skin and what’s good for one person might not be good for another!

One of the main things I need from a facial spray besides hydration is a fine mist. I don’t want to be bombarded with a harsh spray that leaves my face drenched in product! The intensity of both of these sprays is perfect.

Please remember to test patch all new products to avoid any nasty skin reactions.
