Mario Badescu Anti-Aging Kit Review

If there is one thing I love in skincare, it’s mini-sized products. It lets you try out the product at a smaller size without investing in the full size – this can save you a lot of money if you don’t like it, or the product doesn’t agree with your skin. So a big thank you to brands that make mini-size products available.

So, on to the Mario Badescu Anti-Aging Kit Review! Spoiler alert – this anti-ageing kit is really good!

Products the kit contains

This five-step kit contains Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, Glycolic Acid Toner, Collagen Moisturiser with SPF 15, Super Collagen Mask and Glycolic Eye Cream. The only product missing from the set (in my opinion), is a serum – that would make this kit perfect! Although I love all of these products, my least favourite would be the moisturiser. It is still really good, but I prefer other ones that I have used before. In saying that, I am on the fence if I would repurchase the moisturiser again. As for the rest of the products, I have already repurchased some of the products, and will again.

This kit retails at $48 (AUD) and was purchased from Mecca here in Australia. Internationally, it is available from Beauty Bay, Ulta, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Macy’s, to name a few. The strange thing is I can’t see the kit on the actual Mario Badescu website anymore.

Glycolic Foaming Cleanser

This cleanser is a herbal-based exfoliating clear gel.

This cleanser foams up really well, which I love. It should only be used once-to-twice per week for dry to combination skin, and two-to-three times per week for combination and oily skin. I have combination skin (the classic T-zone) so I cleanse my skin with it on a Sunday and Wednesday night. Choosing those nights means that I remember which night to use it. My skin feels so clean afterwards, without feeling stripped. I will absolutely repurchase this gem of a cleanser, it’s amazing and this little bottle has lasted for 6 months – and I am only halfway through it! Some people may not like the scent of this cleanser, but it smells nice and clean to me.

Glycolic Acid Toner

A mild resurfacing toner that brightens and balances the skin post-cleanse.

I was so excited to try this toner as I had been using the same toner for years, so this was a huge change for me. The first morning I used it, I found it quite drying, and my skin felt like it needed moisturiser immediately. After I had applied my serum and moisturiser I could feel my skin was so soft. That evening, after using it for the second time, my skin didn’t have that same dry feeling, and by the third application, there was no dryness at all. This toner is gentle enough to use twice per day, however it does depend on your skin type and I would recommend to introduce this slowly into your skincare routine. I have stepped down from using this twice per day to each morning, I haven’t felt the need for a separate facial scrub since using this toner. I have since repurchased this toner and I am very happy with it.

Collagen Moisturiser with SPF 15

A lightweight moisturiser formulated with Collagen, Cottonseed oil and Vitamin E.

This is definitely my least favourite in the kit, but it is still a really good moisturiser with the added benefit of SPF. I am yet to find a moisturiser with SPF that doesn’t leave my skin greasy, but this one was definitely way better than a lot I have tried. It does absorb pretty quickly and leaves my face soft and moisturised – this is why I am sitting on the fence as to whether or not to repurchase. I don’t particularly like the nozzle applicator, it can clog up sometimes but it is easy to fix, so it’s not really a big deal.

Super Collagen Mask

Enriched with Collagen and formulated Kaolin, this is a pale green clay-based mask.

If you are a fan of Collagen, you will love this mask. Every time I have used it my skin was so clear afterwards – radiantly clear.  The smell, however, I am not a fan of, but the results are worth it! My only problem is Mecca doesn’t stock this separately, so that is annoying. This mask can be used two-to-three times per week. I found it cooling and refreshing, making it both effective and lovely to use. I was absolutely impressed with this mask.

Glycolic Eye Cream

With Glycolic, cocoa butter, Vitamin E and olive leaf extract, this is a rich emollient eye cream.

When I first used this eye cream I didn’t like it, it really reminded me of vaseline, which I hate touching.  However, I looked past this and now absolutely love this product. It is for nighttime only and for good reason – trust me, you wouldn’t want to try to put makeup on over it, as it’s just too greasy. However, in saying that it does absorb nicely into the skin given time. It is quite thick and a little goes a long way – this tiny little pot lasted ages. I have tried to purchase it from Mecca online a few times only to find out it was sold out – so it must be popular! I found that even though it feels oily, this makes the skin around my eye area so soft. This is definitely an eye cream I will use on repeat.

Rounding up

I highly recommend this kit – in my opinion, there is no better way to try a variety of products for such a great price. Even though they are mini they really do last a long time, increasing their value even further. I have kept the mini-size bottles for a few reasons – they are handy for future travelling, and also the toner bottle I repurchased is quite large, so I decant the product into the smaller mini-size bottle, making it perfect for storing in my vanity bag.
