Urban Decay Backtalk Palette Review – Hit or Miss?

I had been on the lookout for a pink toned eyeshadow palette for a while now, and on a recent visit to Mecca I spotted the Urban Decay Backtalk

I thought the colours were so gorgeous and just what I was looking for!

After seeing this palette, I read a lot of reviews on it, and they are very mixed – some people love it, others not so much. This palette is limited edition, and since I love my Urban Decay Naked3 palette (read my post here) I really wanted to give this palette a go, despite some bad reviews.

Urban Decay Backtalk Palette

This gorgeous palette consists of eight nude-mauve pink, soft berry and muted rose eyeshadow shades, alongside two matching blush and two highlighters.

The name of the palette comes from Urban Decay’s best selling “Vice” lipstick range, in shade “Backtalk” – a beautiful mauve-pink matte lipstick (which is definitely on my makeup hit list!).

I purchased my Backtalk palette from Mecca at $78.

The formula

This has been the most controversy over this palette! When I swatched the palette in Mecca, it was absolutely well pigmented, no doubt about it – however on application (I use Zoeva brushes) the eyeshadow was not as pigmented. While I was surprised, I suddenly understood why some people didn’t particularly like this palette, but I actually like that it is buildable, as I feel in control of the intensity that I want to achieve. I also find it easy to blend.

My daughter (read her blog here at softoctobernight.com) told me that she feels a palette has to lose the surface level to achieve stronger pigmentation, which comes from using it a lot – which would explain the high pigmentation in Mecca from the tester palette.

The palette has a range of mattes to shimmers, so a perfect mix! The shimmers are stunning, with no glitter fallout!

The Packaging

Urban Decay has gorgeous packaging and the Backtalk palette, to me, is no exception.

The palettes are housed in a sleek cardboard case with magnetic closures. The eight eyeshadows are on one side of the palette, with the blush and highlighters on the opposite side.

A double-sided removable mirror separates these two sides. I love this design, it is so travel-friendly; there is no need to carry three individual products since the Urban Decay Backtalk Palette is a 3 in 1 palette.

I also love the outside of the case, the mauve wave design with the white writing – so beautifully eye-catching!

Again, this palette has people divided, as some people do not like the cardboard packaging and would prefer a metal case. I am happy with either! I find this case lovely to hold. The case can’t shut without the mirror in it though. A plus is you get to keep the mirror after the palette is finished.

Hit or Miss?

For me, Urban Decay Backtalk is an absolute hit. While I am not a beauty guru, all I can tell you is it ticked all the boxes for me!

This palette has gorgeous colours, no fallout, and blends so well. I am extremely happy with this palette.
