Eye Creams – Why They Should Be A Skincare Staple

Eye creams have become such an important part of my skincare routine over the past five years, I shudder to think that I didn’t incorporate them into my routine years ago. I thought eye creams were just an opportunity for the skincare industry to make more money from us, but I was wrong. I wouldn’t be without them now! Since using them I have really noticed a difference in the fine lines and wrinkles around my whole eye area. The skin around our eyes is the thinnest on our face – and think about all the work this skin goes through on a daily basis from smiling, laughing, squinting and blinking – so it makes sense that we have to look after this delicate area. So without a doubt for me, eye creams should be a skincare staple. Here are some benefits of incorporating an eye cream into your routine, and some eye creams I love.

The Benefits Of Using An Eye Cream

  • To help minimise fine lines and wrinkles
  • To help prevent lines and wrinkles while you are still young
  • Reduce dark circles
  • Reduce puffiness
  • To prep your skin for makeup
  • To hydrate the skin

As we age, the skin around our eyes loses its elasticity and thins due to collagen breaking down – this is where eye creams can help. However, they are not miracle workers and won’t instantly magic those wrinkles away, but they do help.

Two Of My Favorite Eye Creams

I have tried quite a few eye creams over the past five years and two are standouts for me. The Essano Collagen Boost Eye Creme and the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme. I have repurchased them many times now, they will always be included in my skincare routine.

Essano Collagen Boost Eye Creme

Essano is a New Zealand skincare brand. They tick all the boxes: they are cruelty-free, affordable, and of great quality. I have tried quite a few of their products and this eye cream is one of their star products for me. I have lost count of how many jars I have used at this stage, you know a product is good when you repeatedly repurchase it!

This eye cream contains Rosehip oil, which deeply hydrates, but does not leave any oiliness at all. It is a very lightweight cream and absorbs very quickly. My lines have softened and my skin feels lovely and smooth.

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme

The Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme contains Vitamin C, Collagen, plus banana powder-inspired pigments to illuminate and colour correct. I really notice my dark circles are lighter when I use this eye cream. Only a little bit of product is needed, as it really does go a long way. It has a lovely citrus fragrance too, which I love.

Ole Henriksen has upgraded this product and it is now fragrance-free. I haven’t tried the new formulation yet.

I have a dedicated blog post about the “Let’s Get Luminous Brightening Essentials Set” which you can read here. The Banana Bright Eye Creme is included in the set. I have repurchased the set a few times now as it is incredible value and the products are excellent. I highly recommend this set!
